What is a seagrass runner?

Seagrass runners are runner rugs made from natural seagrass fibres that are not only beautiful, but also sustainable. They work well for hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and lounges. Our seagrass runners start their journey on the coastal meadows in Vietnam and China, where the crop is flooded by seawater and hand harvested. There are many varying colour tones from yellow to green, bringing a natural, earthy beauty to the weave.

Can seagrass runners get wet?

Seagrass is a naturally absorbent plant fibre which unfortunately makes it susceptible to mildew and mould. That’s why we wouldn’t recommend a seagrass runner in a damp space with fluctuating temperatures such as the bathroom. Don’t forget that water can leave a mark on your seagrass runner! That’s why it’s important to quickly treat all spills and stains with a WoolSafe approved Natural Flooring Care Kit.

Design your own seagrass runner

Our Make Me A Rug or Runner tool let’s you make your seagrass runner rug your way; a completely custom made and made to measure runner to fit you space. So if you’re wanting a long, or even extra long runner, we’ve got you covered.

Are seagrass runners soft?

Seagrass is a natural plant fibre and although not quite as soft as jute, it does have the added benefit of being less 'hairy' than sisal, coir or jute as seagrass fibres have very little, to no, shedding. It can be a little harder underfoot than other fibres in our collection, but using an underlay under your runner will help to soften this as well as prolong the life of your seagrass runner. Order a sample online to see and feel the texture for yourself.

How to clean a seagrass runner

Being a plant based fibre, and inherently absorbant, seagrass runners don’t like to get wet, so we would always suggest that when ordering our seagrass runner,  you can choose to have Intec, our environmentally friendly stain inhibitor treatment added. This will help to reduce the impact of liquid spillages, whilst prolonging your floor covering. If a spillage occurs on your seagrass runner, speed is of the essence. Blot, do not rub, and treat with our WoolSafe approved Natural Flooring Care Kit which contains tried and tested products suitable for natural plant based and delicate fibres. If you have a query or need details for a professional cleaner, speak to an expert at WoolSafe now.

How to install a seagrass runner

Our Everyday Favourite Seagrass Runnes can be loose laid or they can be fitted in a space to secure them in place. If you are wanting to have your seagrass runner fitted, this can be more specialist and therefore we would always recommend speaking to one of our Alternative Retail Partners in your local area to find out more and to ensure the best results. You can find your nearest Alternative Retail Partner here

Please note, we would not recommend the use of seagrass runners on stairs.
